Food for Thought

I was driving today to an event and I was getting off 85 to whichever exit and I saw a man with a sign that said, ’ will work for food’ I’ve seen the controversy about ’ don’t give them money, they’re just buying booze, etc.’ I was raised to always help no matter what the situation may be. I saw people giving him pocket change and i didn’t like that. I had 5 dollars that I knew of in my backpack and I quickly pulled it out held up traffic a little bit to give it to him. He said, ’ Thank you’ and I went on my way. 

I was driving back and stopped to get gas and I saw him outside the gas station eating which made me smile. I didn’t think he recognized me, but he did and jumped up to open the door for me and insisted on pumping my gas.  I told him he didn’t have to do it. He told me ’ the sign said will work for food. at least let me pump your gas.  God knew you would cross my path to give me what I needed.’ 

It got me thinking of the peoples paths that I’ve crossed did I give them everything they needed or did I just pocket change them?
